Kutaisi was the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Colchis.  It is widely believed by historians that when Apollonius Rhodius was writing about Jason and the Argonauts and their legendary journey to Colchida, Kutaisi/Aia was the final destination of the Argonauts and the residence of King Aeëtes. Nowadays, it is cozy and quiet city, with fascinating atmosphere and monuments of historic architecture, ancient monasteries, temples and richest archaeological museums and other sites under the protection of UNESCO.

Dinosaur caves and Mysterious canyons

    The oldest settlements of Samegrelo existed in the territory of Kolkheti lowland and its nearby hills as early as the Stone Age. The Kindom of kolkhis was already known to the whole of the ancient world by the 8th c. BC. It was in Kolkhis that the first Georgian money was minted – the Kolkhetian tetri. The pre-Christian Kingdom of Kolchis, that existed on the territory of Western Georgia was the first Georgian state mentioned in Greek history and mythology as remarkable and mysterious country where the Argonauts sailed to carry away the Golden Fleece.

   The Sataplia Mountain is famous by its rarest and the most beautiful caves, geologic, paleontological (dinosaur footprints from  65 million years ago), speleological and botanical monuments. In 15 km distance from Sataplia, Prometheus Cave is located. This cave is one of the richest caves in Europe and it is characterized by the variety of underground rivers and beautiful landscapes
